State unemployment departments charge nonprofits the same rates every other employer pays even though the claims generated by nonprofit organizations are statistically much lower than the averages from the private sector.

Under Social Security Administration regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations, nonprofits may elect to reimburse the state for their unemployment obligations. This method is generally much less expensive than the common taxpaying system reducing costs by 40–50 percent on average, thus freeing up valuable funds to redirect into your services and programs.

Your funds are kept in an interest-bearing reserve account which you own and control unlike payments to the state unemployment fund.
